Zero Dark Thirty
4/5
Yeah, so I liked it. A lot, even. But this is not a perfect movie. What are its problems? Well first of all, I think it's a little ridiculous for Jessica Chastain to get an Oscar nomination. She wasn't that impressive. And that's the second problem. It's not really notably performed. It's performed decently, sure, but the whole thing seemed a little passionless. The lack of passion wasn't just from the actors either. Kathryne Bigelow gave us The Hurt Locker, which took the Oscar for Best Picture. This just didn't have the style or interest in its storytelling. It felt like it was a few steps away from a dramatic representation of scenes presented in a documentary. I would have liked that, but it wasn't that. It was trying to be dramatic. Here's another interesting problem - it moved too fast. A lot of people are complaining about it being long, but honestly, I would have appreciated another half hour or so to let the events leading up to the raid sink in a little more. That all being said, it was a great raid scene, and the movie did a great job at telling its story to a broad range of people in the audience. But, at the end of the day, I did find it overrated. Oh well. It'll probably win a few Oscar's, and then I'll look dumb.
