Drive

4.5/5

If there's one thing this movie succeeds at incredibly well, it's the tone. It's consistent, its suspenseful, sometimes frightening, and sets a great atmosphere that has the entire city around him somehow focusing on only him. It really works well. Ryan Gosling is really wonderful in this film, playing his character as dark, questioning, and just a little bit shy even though he's confident. It works phenomenally well. The driving and stunt driving is wonderful, it doesn't look fake which is wonderful considering the over saturation of CGI special effects in films now. It loses points, however, for trying very hard to be mind blowing but never quite reaching it. It stays in its comfort zone, never really pushing anywhere that I'm begging to go but also never really achieving that single moment that really surprises me or blows my mind. Still, its a great movie and I'd recommend it.
