Warrior

 2.5/5

A lot of people are going to compare this film to the fighter. So let me start out right now by saying this: Warrior is SIGNIFICANTLY better than the fighter, a film I disliked tremendously. The story is more intriguing, you can root for the character you choose without having one ferociously shoved down your throat, and frankly MMA is far more interesting to watch on screen then boxing. It allows for more surprises, a lot more variation, and an all around more intense fight, as it can visibly turn much differently than a staged boxing match in a film. All that being said, the film still does fall to the cliche's and problems that did leave much of the audience laughing, sometimes mocking the story. It had the same wife/fighter argument about how they could die in the ring, the same question if the spouse will support them, the same answer of "no" that still results in the spouse appearing at the ring, etc, etc, I could go on for days. But at the same time, much of this film feels real and feels human and connected. Sadly, the most frustrating parts were the cliche parts, and the horrible shaky cam in some of the fights. But if you're  a fan of the boxing movie genre, give this a shot and you might be pleasantly surprised. As for myself, I'm feeling pretty neutral.
